Be not hasty in your spirit to be angry: for anger rests in the bosom of fools.
– Ecclesiastes 7:9

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Busy work and fierce competition in society have brought us severe pressure. In addition, the setbacks at work, the jealousy and strife between colleagues and the disharmony between family make us angry and impatient, and lose self-control. This verse teaches us not to be hasty and not to be angry when things come upon us, for anger rests in the bosom of fools. Then how should we get rid of anger and regain our composure? God says, “A person who can truly be quiet before God is able to free themselves from all worldly ties and can achieve being occupied by God. All people who are unable to be quiet before God are assuredly dissolute and unrestrained. All who are able to be quiet before God are people who are pious before God, people who yearn for God. It is only people who are quiet before God who pay attention to life, pay attention to fellowship in spirit, who thirst for God’s words, and who pursue the truth.” God’s words show us the way of practice. Regardless of what happened to us, we should learn to be quiet before God, speak the words within our hearts to Him, have a heart-to-heart communion with Him, entrust our difficulties to Him, seek His will within His words. When we practice in accordance with God’s word and turn our hearts to Him completely, we won’t be easily affected by external matters but gradually calm down. Thus, we can get rid of Satan’s deceit and avoid being foolish. These are the results that being quiet before God achieves.
