December 22, 2019—James 1:25

But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
– James 1:25

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

This verse shows us how to treat God’s words as believers in God. If we want to be blessed by God in things we do, we must treasure His words and laws. Only if we carefully ponder His words, know His will, and are able to practice according to His will, can we be approved and blessed by God. God’s word is our life. Leaving the word of God is leaving God. Without the supply of the word of God, we will feel dark and dry in spirit and lose our way. We often read God’s words, ponder His words, and practice His words for our spiritual growth, and for gaining the enlightenment and illumination of the Holy Spirit. We do this so that we can keep a proper relationship with God and find solutions in His words no matter what difficulties and problems we encounter in life. The prophet Jeremiah treasured the word of God, so he said, “Your words were found, and I did eat them; and your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: for I am called by your name, O LORD God of hosts” (Jeremiah 15:16). From it, we can see the word of God is the supply of our life. The more we treasure His words, the more blessings we can gain from Him. Just as God says, “If you don’t pursue understanding of God, the Holy Spirit will not work in you. God works in those who pursue and treasure His words. The more you treasure God’s words, the more His Spirit will work in you. The more a person treasures God’s words, the greater his chance of being perfected by God. God perfects those who truly love Him. He perfects those whose hearts are at peace before Him. If you treasure all of God’s work, if you treasure God’s enlightenment, if you treasure God’s presence, if you treasure God’s care and protection, if you treasure how God’s words become your reality and provision for your life, you are most after God’s heart. If you treasure God’s work, if you treasure all the work that He has done upon you, He will bless you and cause all that is yours to multiply.
