August 5, 2019—1 Samuel 17:47

And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hands.
– 1 Samuel 17:47

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

From this verse, we can see that David had true knowledge of God’s authority and power. He believed that no matter how powerful enemies were, triumph or failure was controlled by God. So He relied on God and defeated the Philistine giant, Goliath with a stone. The Bible also recorded: When the king of Assyria attacked Israel with two hundred thousand troops, Israelites relied on God and God sent two angels to beat the troops. Obviously, it is God who holds the sovereignty over the success or failure of a battle, as well as the rise and fall of a country or nation. Just as God says, “God does not partake in the politics of man, yet the fate of a country or nation is controlled by God. God controls this world and the entire universe. The fate of man and the plan of God are intimately connected, and no man, country or nation is exempt from the sovereignty of God. If man wishes to know his fate, then he must come before God. God shall cause those who follow and worship Him to prosper, and shall bring decline and extinction upon those who resist and reject Him.” From God’s words, we can understand: God controls the fate of every country and nation. Which country will be raised up during each period is prearranged by God. It is just as God says, “God alone knows the fate of a country or nation, and God alone controls the course of this mankind. If mankind wishes to have a good fate, if a country wishes to have a good fate, then man must bow down to God in worship, repent and confess before God, or else the fate and destination of man will unavoidably end in catastrophe.
